THIS IS AN NPC CHARACTER General Information - Full Name: Christopher Brian Hubbard Nicknames: Chris, ‘Sidewinder’ (Academy friends only) Place of Birth: Starbase 78 Current Home: San Diego, CA, Earth Race: Human Rank: Lieutenant Commander Current Position: Assistant Chief Engineer Age: 33 Gender: Male Height: 6'3" Weight: 180 pounds Hair Color: Brown Eye Color: Green
Personal Information Personality: Anyone who has worked along side Chris knows that he can go from being the most jovial person you know, to the most serious in the blink of an eye. It’s like he has an alter ego that clicks in depending on if he’s on the job or at the dinner table. When on duty, Chris takes his job seriously, and even though he can be light-hearted with his staff, he expects the job to get done. Whether receiving orders or giving them, Chris moves with a pace that shows he’s determined. He expects the best from those he works with and therefore challenges himself to give all that he has to his direct command. The job is number one because to Chris, the ship’s systems and engines are number one. "No matter how important the mission, if the ship can’t move or the systems aren’t performing up to par, then you might as well sit around because there’s not much you can do. And that’s why the Chief Engineer and his staff are entrusted with the heart of the ship." Off-duty, Chris believes more than anyone that a good break is needed to renew and refresh. If the crew isn’t happy during their free time, they won’t be at their best when the orders come down. Although Chris tends to be biased towards 'old friends and associates,' Chris realizes the importance on a ship of everyone being familiar with everyone else. He’ll be the first to help you when you're down and the first to accept blame when the job doesn’t get done. Appearance: Relatively tall, Chris stands with a feeling of confidence. As long as his systems are all working, then a smile on his face is guaranteed. He keeps his brown hair short, with a thin goatee or beard that comes and goes depending on Chris’ mood at the time. He keeps his body in fit condition, even though as he has entered his early 30’s, he’s been known to 'forget' his workouts from time to time. But when something explodes or breaks, Chris is the first one to believe that all engineers must keep their bodies lean in order to get to the repairs in a quick fashion. Physical Health: Chris is pretty much in excellent physical condition. An active series of youthful years in sports, along with a career of crawling through jeffries tubes and dodging explosions has taken its effect. Mental and Emotional Health: Has a pre-cadet record on file, but has shown stability since entering Starfleet.

Important Events in his Life: Unfortunately, things did not remain in their seeming utopia, as the Grissom-C was attacked and taken hostage by a Romulan Warbird just a few years later. The children and non-essential crew aboard the ship were allowed to depart via the escape pods. However, the command crew, including both of Chris’ parents, were interrogated and murdered by what the Romulan government labeled as a "renegade group that did not represent the Empire." Their Uncle Rick, the commodore in command of Starbase 78, retired from Starfleet and moved to the city of Toronto, back on Earth, in order to take the four children under his wing. The eldest of the four, Scott, disappeared several months after the incident and would not be seen till many years later. This left Robin and Marcus to follow in their parents footsteps, as they both entered Starfleet Academy at the earliest possible age. However, Chris was not so anxious to return to the stars. He elected to attend several public universities and did not enter the Academy till the age of 23. After a combined 7 years of education and training, Chris graduated from Starfleet Academy as an Engineer in 2371, but was not on the fast track to receiving an assignment. With very few Engineering vacancies in the fleet, Chris served shortly at Spacedock before agreeing to transfer as a Diplomatic Officer to the USS Octavian, under the command of Admiral Mark Casey. A little less than a year went by before Admiral Casey departed the ship, and the crew was reshuffled for the new CO - Captain Toroca. This led to Chris receiving a promotion to Lieutenant and finally, a transfer into the Engineering department. Chris quickly became very familiar with the Octavian’s Interphasic Cloaking device, and found himself right at home as Asst. Engineer. Unfortunately, shortly into the ship’s first mission under new command, the Chief Engineer was killed in an accident while on the second engineering level. Chris found himself having to assume full responsibility over the department in the middle of a heated mission. Chris was able to perform well beyond expectations and assumed the position of Chief Engineer on a permanent basis. Chris, or 'The Chief,' as he was now referred to by his crewmates, would become a mainstay in the Engineering department for almost three years, receiving a promotion to Lt. Commander during his second year. He definitely received more than his fair share of bumps and bruises, but what had been a chaotic life had settled itself. Chris was able to finally put the murder of his parents and the disappearance of his eldest brother behind him. The Octavian’s Engine room became his home and the Interphasic Cloak became his new best friend. Despite the atmosphere he had created for himself, Chris had always been ambitious, so he decided to complete Starfleet Command Training, with the thought that he could keep the idea in his back pocket till several years down the road. But the door opened much quicker than he expected, as Admiral Toroca recommended Chris for the vacant XO spot aboard the USS Casey. The review process went rather quickly and Chris was informed of his new promotion to fill the position. Chris found it hard to leave the Octavian, but he felt the calling. The fact that his new ship was named for his mentor, Admiral Casey, definitely made things easier for him. He would serve in the position for a year, till 2376, before receiving orders to report back to Earth as a technician for Starfleet Engineering. It seemed odd for Starfleet to call him back in such a fashion, but Chris would eventually learn it was the first of several pre-planned steps by HQ. The year 2376 would prove to be a strange and busy year. Unknown to Chris, Starfleet had located his missing brother. The move to bring Chris back to Earth was due to the fact that Starfleet had suspected Scott Hubbard of assisting the Dominion during the war. Now that he had been identified and located, Starfleet planned on using Chris to track Scott down and discover just how deep this scheme ran. Chris, along with his other brother, Marcus ('Brian'), was quietly granted a leave of absence from Starfleet and not much more is known outside of Starfleet Intelligence. Several months went by and Chris and Brian reappeared. Brian, a former Tactical Officer, was reassigned with Starfleet Intelligence aboard the USS Endeavor-E. Chris would return to Starfleet Engineering and was immediately placed with the ongoing Prometheus Class Starship Improvement Project. Chris would help improvements to the engine system's four and six-nacelle design, and upon completion of testing, was assigned to assist new Prometheus Class ships that were having problems with their warp fields, starting with the USS Nazgel. In 2378, Chris found himself in an exciting situation as he was posted to one of the new Prometheus Class ships - the USS Dragonstar. It held special meaning because the Dragonstar contained many of the former Octavian crewmembers who were transferred after the Octavian’s destruction a year earlier. (Note: Chris feels guilty that he never got to say goodbye to "his" Engine Room on the Octavian before it was destroyed.) In 2381, after an incident that nearly destroyed the ship, Chris replaced Ryan Galen as the Assistant Chief Engineer of the Dragonstar. Starfleet felt that he was better qualified to assist the new Chief, having worked with her previously on the Prometheus Class engine design.

Goals for Life: His goals have changed in the past few years, now that he’s seen his eldest brother again and after spending far too much time behind a desk. Chris, once set on working at Starfleet Command, now feels the "calling of the stars." A command position is perhaps on his "to-do" list again in the future, but for now he’s not picky, as long as he’s on some sort of ship. | ||||
