Pets: A young Charishidan panther called Summit. Summit is completely jet black and is very smart. She hardly ever leaves Shane's side.

Personality: Very down-to-earth. Shane has a strong sense of right and wrong; his parents drilled that into him when he was young. Shane's strong ideals have been known to get him in trouble with his superiors on certain occasions. He is very outgoing and seems to make friends easily but he also enjoys spending time alone. Shane is very adventurous and can often be found doing dangerous activities 'just for kicks.'

He also has a very good sense of humour. He can sometimes be found playing practical jokes on his friends, and he takes as much as he gives. His jokes are never destructive, though sometimes they appear rather childish. Despite this, Shane is a very efficient and professional worker; a characteristic that earned him an early promotion on a previous assignment.

Appearance: Slightly tanned from living in outback Australia. He usually keeps his hair short, as it tends to get out of control if he lets it grow. Shane is relatively thin but almost surprisingly well toned. This is probably due to the level of activity he keeps up in his spare time (mountain climbing is a favourite hobby of his).

Physical Health: Very fit. Shane is usually very healthy, although his eating habits sometimes leave a bit to be desired (he likes junk food!). Hard work doesn't bother him and his physical health is symbolic of that fact.

Mental Health: Well adjusted, has a strong sense of ideals. Shane is slightly empathic and this led to some confusion in his younger years, but he has since come to terms with this ability and it has even helped him in his career.

Emotional Health: Usually happy and willing to help out wherever needed. He can get very angry in certain circumstances (eg, if his ideals are crossed) and when this happens it is best not to be within shouting range!

Promotions, Awards, or Commendations:
Spent time on the Discovery as an Engineering officer before he was quickly promoted to lieutenant for his particularly high level of service. When the Chief Engineer was incapacitated by an accident, Shane was promoted to Acting Chief Engineer. He was then demoted back to Ensign after he was deemed the major suspect in the destruction of the Discovery.

Important Events in his Life:
Shane was born and raised in the Australian outback. His mother was Betazoid and his father was a human farmer. When Shane was growing up, he showed a talent for technical ability. As he went through his education, this ability showed in his high science and math marks.

When Shane hit puberty, some latent empathic abilities (from his mother's side of the family) started to show themselves. This produced a lot of confusion as he started dating girls. He could sense many feelings but was unsure if they came from himself or other people. His mother, Kiery, soon picked up on his abilities and helped him to deal with the conflicting emotions he was now experiencing. As Shane grew into adulthood, his abilities diminished slightly. He found out that he can sense strong emotions, sometimes from very long distances, but he can't pinpoint locations or who the emotions belong to unless he is close to the source.

Shane's mother had previously done some contract work for the Federation, and she suggested that his technical ability would be an advantage in Starfleet. Shane applied to the Academy and was accepted. He showed particular aptitude for warp core dynamics and took some extra subjects in the area. Four years later he graduated and was assigned his first post on the USS Discovery. After his first mission, he was promoted for stunning technical work on the warp core. On his second mission the Chief Engineer was injured and Shane was made the Acting Chief. After the mission, shore leave on Charishida was granted. Fluctuations in the warp core were detected and Shane set-up some temporary measures to fix the fluctuations until they could get back to spacedock to fix the core.

On shore leave, he found Summit and through a number of situations they became very good friends. Now she will not leave Shane unless it is necessary. Also while on Charishida, the temporary measures set-up on the warp core failed and the core breached, destroying the ship. Shane was blamed, though it wasn't his fault. He was demoted and stood trial in a Starfleet court. The court found he wasn't completely at fault so he wasn't discharged or jailed but as suitable disciplinary action, his demotion would stand.

His demotion is still a sore spot and he doesn't like talking about it. He was then accepted for a post on the USS Dragonstar. He took the post as a chance to redeem himself and forget his past 'failures.'

Likes:
Spending time in natural settings, eg, beaches, mountains, etc. He also enjoys helping people with whatever he can. Since his shore-leave on Charishida, Shane has had a pet panther called Summit. He enjoys spending time with her, and can often be found in the holodeck jungle simulation along with the cat.
A favourite hobby of Shane's is rock climbing.

Anyone who shuns or disregards personal freedoms or rights. (eg, Borg)

Goals for Life: To help those that aren't as fortunate as himself and to rid the galaxy of races like the Borg. He hopes to one day become a chief engineer of a large starship.
