Personality: The stress of Starfleet has since taken a toll on Simon's previous happy-go-lucky personality. Various misfortunes suffered on missions over the last two years has made Simon a little grimmer, more serious and job focussed. He is not a pessimist by any means but has seen that his actions or inactions can have long-lasting consequences. Romance also no longer has the appeal it once had in his life. He has known love and then felt its loss and while he still hopes one day to be reunited with Tahkris he does not conceal from himself that the relationship was far from ideal before she vanished. The fact that she seemed to vanish willingly is also not lost to Simon and is, in part, responsible for his darker moods these days. However one should not get the impression that Simon is a glum, brooding figure casting dark shadows over all he comes across. He gets along well with most of the science crew having felt he has proved his worth in their eyes both academically and as a Starfleet officer. He likes music in the labs, tells jokes and strives to be a leader to these people - not easy when one is only 5'7". Finally, Simon feels that he is now better at dealing with aliens than he has ever been. After two years of dealing with a Shalaanin superior officer, a Klingon lover and a large number of alien races on the Octavian, Simon has learned that while these races might have unusual values and customs when compared to the Human ones he grew up with, they are much like he is and are trying to understand him as much as he is trying to understand them. Simon has even gotten used to dealing with Vulcans and has lost many of his prejudices regarding them. While not a genius, Simon is very quick-witted and is what is usually known as a rugged individualist. He hates to be one of the herd which is rare anyway because he tends to think along different lines than other people. Appearance: Simon is a short and stocky black male with loosely curled black hair. His nose is flat and in short, he is not an attractive man, usually considered two stages from ugly. Physical Health: Reasonable Mental Health: Good Emotional Health: Simon is usually one of the happiest people in a room. Very little gets to him and he suffers from almost no stress. Sometimes boredom causes him minor problems but he usually has the wit to find something worth doing.

Important Events in his Life: Trish Morgan came from a poor family who Simon never knew. She became a con-artist and found it easy to exploit the trusting natures of the Vulcan's who inhabited the planet (although, she didn't exclusively con Vulcan's). She managed to entice Capt. Thomas Wise of the merchant ship Brolga's Cry. They dated and she managed several scams through his company but accidentally became pregnant with Simon. Rather than feel bad for the unwanted infant, she used Simon as a resource in her con's. One of her prime rules was to take every negative and turn it to your advantage. Inevitably, she was discovered but managed to escape to parts unknown and Simon has heard no news of her capture. Simon was 8 at this time and his father, reluctantly at first, cared for him. During the initial year together, both had a tough time. Thomas had truly loved Trish and was badly hurt by what she had done to him. In the fullness of time they began to accept one another and Simon learned to deeply respect his father who was known even after his wife's problem, as a very fair trader. When Simon was eleven his father was met on Vulcan by a strange man (presumably a Vulcan) in the robes of the religious order. Thomas was a Moslem like Simon became. The next day, Thomas had his son pack his belongings and set him up in accommodation on Vulcan. Simon asked his father what was going on but Thomas would not speak of it. He gave Simon enough to cover living expenses for a month or so and then left in the Brolga's cry. The ship never returned. After his month had expired, Simon went to the authorities who assisted him temporarily. At the end of roughly another month, the said they would have to make permanent arrangements. The official asked him if he would like passage back to Gorradia, Earth or if he would prefer to be made a ward on Vulcan. Simon still held out hope that his father would eventually return and didn't know anyone anywhere else so he opted to stay. He regretted the decision for the next 6 years. Vulcan children don't play, they study and aspire to become efficient grown up Vulcans. Simon made no friends and had a difficult time in school (which he was forced to attend for the first time) initially as he didn't even speak Vulcan. He graded poorly and it was more a credit to excellent Vulcan teaching methods and Simon's own boredom that he passed at all. At his first opportunity, he signed with Starfleet so that he could leave Vulcan and have a career at the same time. This was the reverse of Vulcan and Simon believes that this was the best decision he ever made, he enjoyed the next four years more than any others in his life. He made many friends and was surprised by his own abilities in the sciences, initially he had been training for security. Simon had considered himself an average science pupil in his Vulcan schooling because he was comparing himself to Vulcans. Simon was extremely proud (not to mention surprised) when he finished at the top of his class and was awarded the TF Distinguished Service Medal. He actually doesn't consider himself worthy of it and considers his friends in his class to be just as fine an officer as he is, thinking class position as highly over-rated. Simon boarded the USS Octavian as the Assistant Chief Science Officer under Lt. Kirali. Part of his duties were to man the sensors on the bridge during Beta shift and he took to this with relish, he had never been on the bridge of a Starfleet ship before, much less that of a Sovereign Class. Kirali suffered from an illness and as time went by Simon was forced to take a more active role in running the science department of the Octavian. This prepared him well to take over as Department Head when she resigned to live with her husband. During this time Simon also developed a relationship with Lt. Cmdr. Tahkris, the then Chief of Security. Although their romance was often rocky Simon still cared deeply for her. He feels responsible that her disappearance was at least somewhat voluntary.
Strengths, Weaknesses, Advantages, Disadvantages:
Friends: Of course Simon gets along well with most of the crew, especially those who were part of the Octavian crew but he does not draw a distinction there; Simon likes most people and even before his unhappy thoughts dwelling on the past he much preferred the company of others than to brooding alone.

Goals for Life: Few as Simon tends to go with the flow of things. He is grateful to Starfleet for accepting him and providing him with friends and an excellent career and will do his best as an officer. In the longer term, he would like to try to find out what happened to his father and even his mother. | ||||||||||||
