Personality: Crazed. Tommy laughs almost all of the time and actually seems to find just about everything he encounters funny. He does tone it down from time to time and has passed his psych evaluations but not before counselors have scribbled hundreds of notes on his file.

Appearance: Tommy is tall and what a lot of people would describe as 'rakishly handsome'. His hair is very striking and his always laughing face is long but powerful looking. He is fit and a little on the lean side but generally regarded as good-looking.

Physical Health: Fit and healthy as an ox. Tommy enjoys sports of every kind, especially team sports. Extremely minor problem with eyesight.

Mental and Emotional Health: The psychologists and counselors have gone over this one several times. As Tommy says it though, "I'm happy, what could be better and more healthy than that?" His constant exuberance though has led many to question his sanity and it has been a major factor in why he has been frequently passed over for promotion and not assigned to essential areas, although he has never lapsed in his work.

Important Events in his Life:
Tommy was part of the Sulocko tragedy. The Sulocko was a colony ship heading out to Questor II, a minor world near the bottom edge of the galaxy and near Romulan space. It was still within Federation space and it was felt that a colony there would be able to 'keep and eye' on the Romulans and/or smugglers trying to get through.

However, near the end of its voyage there was a waste leak in the reactor which pulsed radioactive steam throughout the ship. This was compounded with a malfunction of the ships breach system, only a few doors in the entire ship actually sealed.

Tommy would have been an infant of about 1 year old at the time and is assumed to have been born on the ship. He was the only survivor in the forward recreation compartment who's hatch fortunately sealed. He stayed sealed in that compartment for nearly 3 years.

The ship powered down and drifted. It wasn't until 35 months later that a Romulan scout ship spotted it on sensors and investigated. They detected a life sign and saw that it was a Federation ship so rather than interfere, they sent a message to the Federation through channels. It took a further 2 months before a Federation ship could be sent to the Sulocko.

They found Tommy in an the forward recreation room which still had battery power. There was a food replicator which he had somehow gotten to work although he was suffering from some malnutrition. The viewer was playing a show called 'The Luck of the Irish', which was a sitcom about the misadventures of Ensign Tom McKenna. Despite his inability, Tom was also extremely lucky. The infant could barely speak but he knew just about every line in all 72 episodes. Not knowing his real name, the child was named Tommy in honor of the show.

After his rescue Tom was places with foster parents but always wanted to do one thing, work for Starfleet. He himself isn't certain if it was because of the show (which he still likes, despite how dated it is) or because it was Starfleet who rescued him. He signed up for the Academy and worked diligently, if also a little too jovially.

His main aptitude was for Engineering but he also has a smattering of all other disciplines. However, his constant joking manner has inspired little trust among his commanding officers and he has been passed over for promotion more than once.

After serving in several engineering positions in Starfleet, Tommy was essentially 'beached' on DS9. Much preferring ship duty to station duty he leapt at the opportunity of temporary assignment aboard the USS Octavian on its final mission.

Tommy distinguished himself during the mission and managed to pester the XO, Paul Reilly to have him reassigned to the USS Dragonstar. Delighted to be serving aboard a new type of ship Tommy was even more pleased to discover that Engineering was to be led by Austin Chandler whom Tommy considers a genius of engineering.
