The Utility Core on most starships is situated directly below the Main Bridge. It serves as a major pathway for Optical Data Network conduits, Electro-Plasma System grids, Library Computer Access and Retrieval System networks, and much more. Major branches of all these systems run from Main Engineering, the Computer Cores, the Main Bridge, and data/power intensive ship systems such as holodecks and Science Labs, as well as the Tactical Systems.
There are redundant secondary and tertiary lines for all of these systems, of course, but the main ones in the Utility Core are usually the most heavily used, and capable of handling the greatest data/power loads. They're also easier for a ship's Engineers to maintain, as having all of these lines in one large area makes for easier access. On the Dragonstar, the Utility Core is a more complex beast than it is on most starships. Because of the Dragonstar's Multi-Vector Assault capability, the ship has three identical bridges, on Decks One, Five, and Nine. The Dragonstar's Utility Core is not a simple vertical structure as on most ships. It runs from beneath the bridge on Deck One to the aft side of the bridge on Deck Five, to the aft side of the bridge on Deck Nine, and from there directly to Main Engineering. In this way, all of the key portions of the ship are connected by the primary data and power networks. Here on the website, the Utility Core is your source for all of the informational resources that are not directly related to the ship and its systems. Currently, you can find a Stardate Calculator, a Warp Speed Calculator, and the ship's Posting Rules. More is planned, so keep an eye on the news in the Briefing Room. |
